Local attractions
There are plenty of interesting places to visit within a short walk or drive of the Yew Tree Inn.
The spectacular stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge lie a little further afield. En route, the towns of Hungerford and Marlborough are worth stopping at - especially if you like antiques.
The unspoilt cathedral city of Winchester is a short drive down the A34. The city is best known for its 11th century cathedral (don't miss the beautiful Antony Gormley sculpture tucked away in the crypt).
Highclere Castle
Highclere Castle nearby is best known as TV’s Downton Abbey.
Donnington Castle
The ruins of the 14th century Donnington Castle will give great views of Newbury.

Sandham Memorial Chapel houses some wonderful frescoes by Sir Stanley Spencer and is a tiny little National Trust property that is definitely worth taking time out for.
